The AB 1756-L81ES controller is an AB GuardLogix 5580 safety controller. It can perform 31 standard taka and 1 safety task. The number of programs supported per task is 1000 programs. The integrated communication ports on the 1756-L81ES controller include one USB port and one Ethernet port. The USB port complies with the USB 2.0 standards and it supports a 12 Mbps data rate. It can be used for programming, configuration, firmware updates, and on-line edits. The Ethernet port can support 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps data rates. The optional communication modules available for the 1756-L81ES controller include the ControlNet, DeviceNet, Remote I/O, DH+, and SynchLink modules. The maximum number of Ethernet/IP nodes supported is 100 nodes.

The following programming languages are supported on the 1756-L81ES controller are the ladder diagram, structured text, function block diagram, and the sequential function chart languages. Controller redundancy is not supported. The user memory capacity on the module is 3 MB and safety memory capacity is 1.5 MB. The maximum number of digital and analog I/Os that are supported are 128,000 and 4000, respectively. The 1756-L81ES controller can support a total of 128,000 I/O. The module comes with 2 GB of integrated nonvolatile memory. The current drawn by the module at 1.2 Volts DC is 5 milliamps and at 1.5 Volts DC, the current draw is 1.2 Amps. The power dissipated as heat during operation is 6.2 Watts. The approximate module weight is 0.394 kilograms. The 1756-L81ES controller requires one empty slot in the chassis for installation. Chassis that are compatible with the 1756-L81ES include the 1756-A4, 1756-A4K, 1756-A7, 1756-A7K, 1756-A10, 1756-A10K, 1756-A13, 1756-A13K,1756-A17, and the 1756-A17 K Series B and Series C chassis. The operating temperature range is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius.
